Andrew Richner

Andrew Richner is an attorney with Clark Hill PLC and a current University of Michigan regent, serving as the board's chair. He and Andrea Fischer Newman – both incumbents – are the two University of Michigan regent candidates nominated by the Michigan Republican Party at its August convention. They are among the eight candidates for two seats on the Board of Regents.

Richner is seeking his third eight-year term as a UM regent. He was first elected in 2002, and re-elected in 2010.

At Clark Hill, Richner is part of the firm's government and public affairs practice group.

Richner has been active in the Republican Party for many years at the local, state and national levels. In 2016 he served as 14th Congressional District chair for Donald Trump's presidential campaign. Early in his career he was an intern in the Office of Counsel to the President in the White House under President Ronald Reagan.

Richner served in the Michigan State House of Representatives for three terms – from 1997 to 2002 – representing District 1 (Detroit, the Grosse Pointes and Harper Woods). He also was elected to two terms as a Wayne County Commissioner, serving from 1993-1996, and one term on the Grosse Pointe Park City Council from 1991-1993.

In 2011 he was appointed by Gov. Rick Snyder to serve on the state's Indigent Defense Advisory Commission, a group tasked with investigating how to improve legal representation provided to low-income criminal defendants in Michigan.

Richner holds undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Michigan.

Richner and his wife Susan Richner live in Grosse Pointe Park. They have two adult children, both graduates of UM.

Richner is serving as treasurer for his campaign.
