Ann Arbor Public Schools Board of Education
Christine Stead is a healthcare management consultant and member of the Ann Arbor Public Schools Board of Education. She has served on the board since 2010 and is its current president.
Stead is one of four incumbents running for four seats on the AAPS board. A total of eight candidates are running for those nonpartisan positions on Nov. 6. Each seat is for a four-year term.
Stead's campaign website describes her values in the areas of school funding, high-quality education and transparency, credibility and advocacy. She also lists her top 3 recommendations to the State Board of Education for making changes to Michigan's public school system.
Stead was appointed to the AAPS board in March 2010 after being selected by the trustees in the wake of Adam Hollier’s resignation, which he announced at the board’s Feb. 3, 2010 meeting. She was selected on a 4-2 vote by trustees from among eight candidates. That partial term ran through Dec. 31, 2010. Stead then was elected by voters in November 2010 for a four-year term through Dec. 31, 2014.
Stead is founder and CEO of Headlamp Advisors LLC, an Ann Arbor-based consulting firm focused on the healthcare industry. Previously she was an executive strategist for Blue Cottage Consulting Inc. in Ann Arbor, which also focused on healthcare organizations. She has served as a principal or partner in several other firms, including ECG Management Consultants, CSC, and ACS Healthcare Solutions.
Stead serves on the board and executive committee of Huron Waterloo Pathways, a nonprofit that's helping expand Michigan's network of non-motorized trails.
Stead holds two degrees from the University of Michigan – a bachelors in cellular & molecular biology, and an master of health services administration (MHSA) in health management and policy.
She is married to Jim Stead, who is serving as her campaign treasurer. The couple has two sons who attend Ann Arbor public schools. The family lives on the northwest side of Ann Arbor, near Skyline High School.
