Karen Quinlan Valvo

In January 2016, Karen Quinlan Valvo was appointed to the 15th District Court by Gov. Rick Snyder to replace Chris Easthope, who resigned in late 2015. Valvo is running to fill the remainder of Easthope’s term, through 2020.

Valvo presides over criminal and traffic cases and the specialized Mental Health and Veterans Treatment Court dockets. Before becoming a judge, Valvo was an attorney in private practice with the firm Fink & Valvo PLLC. She also served on the Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents from 2001-2006, and was the board’s chair in 2005-2006. In the past she also was president of the Washtenaw County Bar Association. In 2000 she served as co-chair of the Washtenaw County team for Republican George W. Bush’s presidential campaign.

Valvo earned a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan University in 1993 and a law degree from the University of Toledo in 1997. She currently lives in Ann Arbor, but was a longtime resident of Ypsilanti.
