Ann Arbor City Council – Ward 4
Eric Lipson is an attorney and owner of NewHouse Research & Design, a company that builds DecaDomes – portable buildings for shelter and storage. In 2005 he ran for Ward 4 city council but was defeated by incumbent Marcia Higgins in the Democratic primary. Lipson served on the Ann Arbor planning commission from 2003-2007.
Since 2012 Lipson has been treasurer of the Library Green Conservancy, a group that’s advocating for a public park on city-owned land next to the downtown library. He has previously worked as general manager for the Inter-Cooperative Council (ICC), a local housing nonprofit primarily for University of Michigan students, and as staff attorney for UM’s Student Legal Services. He co-authored, with his mother Greta Lipson, the publication "Everyday Law for Young Citizens."
Lipson has lived in Ann Arbor since 1972, when he arrived to attend law school at the University of Michigan. He is married to Lorene Sterner, a staff member at the UM Kelsey Museum of Archaeology. They have three children and live in the Woodbury Park neighborhood.
