Jen Eyer

OUTCOME: Conan Smith was elected Washtenaw County commissioner in District 9, defeating write-in candidates Jen Eyer and Jeff HaynerSmith received 90.56% of the votes, with voter turnout at 65.53%. For more results, check the Washtenaw County elections site.

Jen Eyer is vice president of Vanguard Public Affairs, a Lansing-based public relations firm. On Sept. 8, 2016, she was appointed by the Washtenaw County board of commissioners to fill the District 9 seat, vacated in August by Conan Smith. The partial term runs through 2016.

From 2000-2016, Eyer worked in a variety of jobs for MLive, a media organization that operates in Ann Arbor and several other Michigan communities. Most recently she was director of engagement for MLive Media Group.

Since 2008, Eyer has served on the board of the Dicken Elementary School PTO. She received a bachelor's degree in journalism from Michigan State University. She is married to Kevin Eyer, an IT specialist with the city of Ann Arbor. They have two school-age children and live on Ann Arbor's southwest side.

Eyer is an official write-in candidate for the District 9 seat, but her name will not appear on the ballot. The only candidate on the ballot is Conan Smith, who resigned as county commissioner effective Aug. 20, 2016 so that he could apply for a job with the county.
