Kevin Leeser is a registered nurse working at the University of Michigan Hospital, and has also worked as a documentary filmmaker. He has been active in the Save Our Streets group (SOS – formerly Safety on Seventh), which advocates for traffic calming and pedestrian/bicycle safety.

In November 2015 he ran as an official write-in candidate for Ward 5, losing to the Democratic candidate Chip Smith. For this election cycle, Leeser initially pulled petitions to run as an independent candidate in Ward 5. However, he subsequently filed to run as a Democratic candidate and will appear on the Aug. 2 ballot.

Leeser has lived on the city’s Old West Side for about 10 years and is married to Lauren Miller. The couple has two young children.
