OUTCOME: Republicans Tom McMillin and Nikki Snyder were elected to the Michigan State Board of Education in this statewide race. (In Washtenaw County, Democrats Ish Amhed and John Austin received a majority of votes.) For more results, check the Washtenaw County elections site.
Nicolette "Nikki" Snyder is a registered nurse and lactation consultant. She was nominated as a candidate to the state Board of Education at the Republican Party convention on Aug. 27, 2016. This is her first bid for public office.
Snyder is an adjunct faculty member at Washtenaw Community College and the University of Detroit Mercy, teaching courses in nursing education. She also works on a consulting basis for Providence Park Hospital in Novi. She previously was an obstetrics nurse at the University of Michigan Health System.
Snyder received an associate's degree from WCC and a bachelor's degree in nursing from Eastern Michigan University. She and her husband have three children and live in Dexter.
