Paul Brown

Paul Brown is a partner with eLab Ventures, a venture capital firm, and an adjunct professor in the University of Michigan College of Engineering's Center for Entrepreneurship. Brown and Jordan Acker are the two University of Michigan regent candidates nominated by the Michigan Democratic Party at its August convention. They are among the eight candidates for two seats on the Board of Regents.

Brown is a member of the UM Lecturers’ Employee Organization and serves on the board of the AFL-CIO Huron Valley Central Labor Council. He is board chair of Heritage Michigan (formerly the Michigan History Foundation) and past board treasurer of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters. He also serves on the board of Wolverine Mutual Insurance Company, and is a past board member of Akadeum Life Sciences and Strata Oncology.

He co-founded three tech start-ups – Front Door Insights, Solis Tech and Front Door Direct LLC. Front Door Insights was acquired in 2013 by Mobivity Holdings Corp., a publicly traded company.

From 2008-2013, Brown served as vice president for capital markets at the Michigan Economic Development Corp. (MEDC), where he managed the state's $2 billion 21st Century Jobs Fund.

In 2010 Brown made the "40 Under 40" list in Crain's Detroit Business. That same year he ran for UM regent, coming in third with 21.85% of the statewide votes.

Earlier in his career, Brown practiced law in the Manhattan office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, focusing on mergers & acquisitions and litigation. Prior to that he was a law clerk to Judge John O’Meara in Federal District Court of the Eastern District of Michigan.

Brown received a bachelor’s degree in history and an MBA from the University of Michigan, and a law degree from Wayne State University School of Law.

Brown grew up in Petoskey and is the grandson of Prentiss M. Brown, the only U.S. Senator from Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

Brown is married to Nicole Forester, an actress. They have two school-age children and live in Ann Arbor's Burns Park neighborhood.

Brown is serving as treasurer for his campaign.
