Ann Arbor Public Schools Board of Education
Susan Baskett is a management consultant and trustee on the Ann Arbor Public Schools Board of Education. She has served on the AAPS board since 2003 and currently is its vice president. She is one of four incumbents running for four seats on the AAPS board. A total of eight candidates are running for those nonpartisan positions on Nov. 6. Each seat is for a four-year term.
As part of her work as AAPS trustee, Baskett serves on the board's planning committee and Regional Alliance for Healthy Schools (RAHS).
In her most recent re-election bid, in November 2014, Baskett placed 1st in a field of 10 candidates, winning one of four seats with 17,121 votes (15% of votes cast).
Basket served a partial term on the Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority board, an appointment by the Ann Arbor City Council. She was appointed in 2013 to replace Jesse Bernstein, for a term ending May 5, 2018. However, she resigned from that seat in December 2014.
Baskett has been active in the Democratic Party, holding offices with the Washtenaw County Democratic Party. She currently serves as co-chair of the WCDP's social events committee. In the Aug. 7, 2018 primary she was elected as a Democratic Party precinct delegate for Ward 3, Precinct 5 in the City of Ann Arbor.
Baskett has been a strategic consultant and has held a variety of marketing positions, with a focus on the automotive industry, at GP Strategies Corporation, Campbell-Ewald, The WimbleyGroup Inc., and General Motors.
Baskett holds a bachelors degree in sociology from the University of Michigan, an MBA from Duke University, and a graduate certificate in healthcare management from Eastern Michigan University.
Baskett lives on Ann Arbor's east side, in the neighborhood near Scarlett Middle School. She has an adult son who graduated from Community High School.
Georgina LeHuray serves as Baskett's campaign treasurer.
